Grayson College faculty member co-authors book

Dr. Brandy Fair, Chair of Arts and Humanities at Grayson College, recently co-authored Business Communication in a Technological World with Dr. Chris Gurrie of the University of Tampa.

The book covers a variety of topics, including how to conduct interviews online and uses concrete examples of theory, writing and performance that students can incorporate in the classroom and workplace.

Fair and Gurrie met more than 10 years ago at a conference and have collaborated on various projects since that time. They both teach Business and Professional Communication and found that they were experiencing the same issues despite using different textbooks and being in different states. When a representative from book publisher Kendall Hunt approached them, the conversation evolved from a simple survey of what was missing to ideas about developing their own textbook.

“We thought collaborating would provide a well-rounded approach to meet more students’ needs,” said Fair.

This book is the first full textbook project for both authors. While the book fits the content in the classroom, Fair stresses that students are not the only audience.

“We have all experienced a terrible interview, sat through bad presentations and listened to poorly prepared speakers. Recognizing bad habits is one thing; the ability to change and adapt to make the most of your presentation and your audience’s time and expectations is another,” said Fair.

The book is currently available in the Grayson College bookstore or at https://he.kendallhunt.com/product/business-communication-technological-world
